Most falls are preventable. Prevention starts lower than you'd think.

Falls Prevention Awareness Week

September 21-25th is Falls Prevention Awareness Week. Most falls can be prevented, and prevention often starts lower than people expect.
Falls are the leading cause of injury for older adults. Each year, about a third of Americans aged 65 or older experience one.

Most falls are preventable with small adjustments:
  • Supportive shoes with slip-resistant soles
  • Clear walkways and stairways of clutter
  • Remove loose rugs (a common) slipping hazard
  • Add handrails or grab bars around the home
  • Review medications with your doctor (some may increase fall risk)
  • Schedule regular foot & ankle checkups to address balance or weakness concerns
For caregivers and family: watch for changes in how your loved one walks or stands. Addressing small issues now can prevent serious injuries later.
